Following Territorial Collectivity of Martinique's (TCM) call for projects, this flag is a proposal for a regional emblem used to represent the people of Martinique locally and regionally. To this day, symbolic representation is an important element for the island's development in many subjects such as history, identity, recognition and equality.

The various sections of the flag symbolize different aspects of the country's population, history, and landscape.
